There had likewise been times when Adobe Premiere Elements (APE) had seemed more stable in Win7 than in Win10, while still offering ample features for most purposes. For instance, I recalled that Copernic Desktop Search in Windows 7 had been better, for my purposes, than anything I had found in Windows 10. Some software seemed to function better in Windows 7 than in Windows 10.Such experiences taught me that it could be helpful to retain at least some redundancy, history, or other capacity to deal with unpredictable events over extended periods of time. My recovery trail started much too late, with a post about restoring and saving an image of a working copy of IBM’s (1990s) OS/2. Later, I wished I had kept a working DOS system, complete with the software I had used back in the 1980s – because, on many occasions during the ensuing decades, I had encountered files that were created in formats that no longer exist, for which there seemed to be no free (or any) good converters. That rudely introduced me to the fact that the other drive was unable to read my floppy disks. I discovered this when the school’s administration disposed of the drive I had been using. In 1983, I discovered that the two 8″ floppy drives in Columbia’s business school were not entirely compatible with each other.Nonetheless, I had several reasons for this effort: I was aware that, in 2023, Win7 was outdated. ![]() I wanted to create a basic Windows 7 installation.
